Half Mast

Several times in my life I have seen the American flag flown at half mast. Never before have I watched a flag be lowered to half mast and it has had such an impact on me. Yesterday a tornado tore through a Boy Scout camp in Iowa killing four. This morning for our opening ceremony at camp the flags were all lowered to half mast in memory of those fellow scouts who lost their lives yesterday. When I was a boy I had a terrifying night at a scout camp when a tornado was sighted in the area. I can only imagine how these scouts must have felt yesterday. My heart goes out to the families of all involved in yesterday's tragedy.

  1. I lived through one close enough while working at Philmont and I still can't imagine what it was like.

    I am still in shock.

  2. As an adult scouter and the mother of an Eagle Scout, I have sent my son off to camp numerous times and twice to Nat'l Jamboree. I can not imagine what these parents and kids are going through. God Bless the Mid America Council.

  3. I was in tears last night reading about the reports. I prayed for the family and friends of those killed and injured, also for those trying to provide aid.

I love you and Aaron! (((Hugs)))

  5. I, too, was in tears and still tear up when I read the accounts of the scouters in Iowa. On the national news, there were interviews with some of the young men who helped others, some who were injured themselves but kept doing for others. We have some fine young men in Scouting. I wish they got more recognition for all the good they do and all they have learned that they now can put into practice.
We love you and Aaron and look forward to seeing y'all soon.
